To Whole Cloth
Mill
A Great BookThis last trick is subtle and, to my knowledge, doesn't appear in any of the other books in this series. From Cathedral, City and, to a lesser extent, Castle, you get the distinct feeling that these were great and noble projects that you would have loved to have been a part of. You get this sense too from Mill, but the heady rush that comes with the idea of building something from the ground up is tempered by small, fictional diary entries that betray the harshness of life for those who worked in the mills after their completion.
Mill is a strong contender for a place in your personal and permanent library. It is beautifully illustrated, historically grounded, thoroughly researched, accented with social commentary and, most importantly, it is an enjoyable, absorbing read.

Interesting Overview of Pre-Roman Empire Republic
Great overview of an underrated Ancient World PowerThe hidden error which slipped by the publishers was reference to one "Testicles" in the index which is supposed to be pronounced as the Ancient Greeks would have done. Such an addition is typical of the Berthold's sense of humor and just one of the reasons he is the best prof at the University of New Mexico.
Well-written, clear narrative of Rhodian history

Baseball and Murder...A Winning Combination.....
THE BIG STRIKE OUT
Baseball and Murder what a pairThe book gives an amzingly detailed portrait of a baseball season as a backdrop for the murder. This will appeal to baseball fans (such as me). But the author does not spare any detail in providing the reader with clues as to who the murderer is. He balances the drama of a baseball season with the drama of a murder mystery and does it very well. I read this book in a day because I did not want to put it down.
Strike Three You're Dead has alot to offer for baseball fans and murder myatery fans. It is very entertaining and spellbinding.

Cruising Masterpiece

Descendants of John Milliman
Great resource for Milliman research. A must!

A concise, detailed and well authored trail guide
Excellent addition to my trail guide libraryTrail descriptions for each of the 34 sections comprise most of the text. Chapters on Getting There, and Camping Along The Trail, and an appendix, and index all add the the thoroughness of this excellent guide. I particularly like the photography of rural Rhode Island, and the pronunciation guide for places such as Quonochontaug.

This is how a fishing guidebook should be!
A terrific guide for fly fishing in Southern New England.
The illustrations are remakable. David Macaulay deftly describes and illustrates how the technology that made America a world industrial power came to the young new country and how American ingenuity improved it and made the nation into a world class economic juggernaut.
The author is a superb story teller, and anyone who would like to visualize the nature of mills and to understand the profound impact of this technology on our country should read it.
I highly recommend this great children's book to everyone.
